MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Public Works Director Steven Latoski has received the prestigious National Association of County Engineers Award (NACE) as its 2021 Urban County Engineer of the Year. He came out on top nationally representing Arizona for counties with populations greater than 100,000.
Latoski believes his award comes with considerable help and guidance, saying, “It is with great humility that I accept this honor.” He also praised both co-worker Les Henley and County Manager Sam Elters “for their support and encouragement” adding, “most importantly, this is a credit to the Board’s unwavering longtime support of staff’s active participation in important professional organizations reaping countless benefits in federal and state grant monies.”
NACE is a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional association now in its 7th decade. It is the voice America depends on for safe, efficient county roads and bridges. NACE membership totals nearly 2,000 county engineers, road managers, and related professionals in the US and Canada.
Mohave County Manager Sam Elters praised his valuable employee, saying “We are very proud of Steve and his accomplishments; It is a well-deserved honor. Steve has provided effective leadership to the Mohave County Public Works Department. He has improved policies, updated processes and modernized methods which have prepared and positioned the county for operation sustainability and smart growth.”
Latoski is the past president of the Arizona Chapter of NACE, the organization provides a powerful platform that enables technical input on contemplated transportation legislation; collaborative technical studies such as the recent Arizona Roadway Needs Study, quantifying the condition of county roads and bridges and revenue need; and peer exchange that assists counties in solving important road and bridge issues and advance solutions to project delivery.
