Lake Havasu meth case brings prison sentence

LAKE HAVASU CITY — A probation eligible plea agreement has instead resulted in a prison sentence in a Lake Havasu City drug case. Robert Williams, 58, was arrested during a June 8 traffic stop in the 3000 block of Irwin Lane.

Some 15.1 grams of methamphetamine packed in increments for sale in 6 baggies were found within the vehicle driven by the defendant. Defense attorney Jonathan Robinson said Williams was not a big player in drug sales.

“This is a person selling drugs to support his own habit,” Robinson said during an Oct. 26 hearing. “This stems from an underlying addiction.”

“I’m unwilling to place this defendant on probation,” said Mohave County Superior Court judge Derek Carlisle. “I do believe that a prison sentence is appropriate.”

Judge Carlisle ordered a 2.5-year term in the Arizona Department of Corrections.
