KINGMAN — An early Thursday shooting is under investigation by the Kingman Police Department. Officers reportedly responded at 1:30 a.m. to the incident in the 3800 block of North Evans Street.

Deputy Police Chief Joel Freed said it was learned that Leon Wes Hairybull, 26, Peach Springs, sustained non-life threatening injuries to an arm and his chest.

“Investigators determined that Hairybull, who appeared to be impaired, had attempted to unlawfully enter the rear door of the residence when he was shot once by the homeowner,” Freed said. “Further investigation revealed that approximately two hours earlier, a person matching Hairybull’s description had entered another residence in the 3900 block of North Evans Street, but fled prior to police arrival.

Hairybull was transported to a Las Vegas trauma center for treatment. Freed said charges are pending and investigation continues.
