Kingsmen: “Keeping the Western way of life alive”

For over forty years, a group of local business men and women have dedicated themselves to preserving Western heritage in Mohave County. The Kingsmen seek to “keep the Western way of life alive” by promoting local ranching and rodeo.

The Kingsmen believe that Western heritage was the biggest driving force in Kingman and contributed to its current identity. For four decades, the nonprofit has been led by community-oriented men and women who support civic and charitable initiatives that promote Kingman and support its residents.

Originally an offshoot of the Kingman Chamber of Commerce, the Kingsmen host events throughout the year—often for charitable causes. Last month, they hosted a memorial fundraiser for Ashley Fulton, a 14-year-old barrel racer who passed away from an accident at home earlier this year. The event raised $13,967 which was presented to the family by the Kingsmen.

The Kingsmen held a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) rodeo in April—the first of its two major Kingman Pro Rodeo annual events in April. The second major rodeo is associated with the Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo Association (GCPRA), which will be held later this month in conjunction with Andy Devine Days.

This event will begin with Mutton Bustin’ and Steer Riding on Wednesday, September 24, and continuing on Thursday. Mutton Bustin’ features players ages 3–7, while steer riding is for ages 8–14. This rodeo will even include a raucous event called a Cow Plop, where spectators bet on where a certain cow will poop. The rodeo will be on Friday and Saturday, with gates opening at 4 p.m. and the main event starting at 6 p.m. on both days.

To put on these and other events, the Kingsmen work with many sponsors. They include: Martin Swanty Dodge, Anderson Auto Group, Allo Fiber, Wecom, McDonald’s —White Bluff llc., Air Quality of Kingman, Star Nursery, Origin Mining, Preston Investments, Brown Drilling, Nucor, Kingman Office of Tourism, Kingman Chamber of Commerce, Geo Group, Foothills Bank, Dambar Steakhouse, Patriot Environmental, Boot Barn, Kingman Plaza llc., River Medical, Medusa Farms, Gas & Grub Original, Kermit Transmission, KRMC, Kingman Cancer Care, Renegade Boots, Campbell Ready Mix, Kingman Ace Hardware, and Trans Western Pipeline — Transfer Energy.
