KINGMAN – The City of Kingman announced that its Hilltop Wastewater Treatment Plant has been awarded the Bronze level certification in the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality’s (ADEQ) Voluntary Environmental Stewardship Program (VESP).
The Bronze level VESP certification is granted to facilities that have demonstrated three consecutive years of full compliance with applicable regulations. “Kingman stood out among a select group of municipalities for not only maintaining compliance but also going above and beyond in its performance and management practices at the Hilltop Wastewater Treatment Plant,” said Lauren Hildebrand, Community Liaison for ADEQ, during the certificate presentation.
Rob Owen, Kingman’s Public Works Director, stated, “This recognition is a direct result of the dedication and professionalism of our team at the Hilltop Wastewater Treatment Plant. Their work ensures that Kingman continues to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient public services for our community.”
Participation in the VESP program provides several key benefits to the City of Kingman, including:
- Operational Efficiencies – Reduced inspection frequency and streamlined reporting requirements allow the city to focus resources where they are needed most.
- Enhanced Planning – Advance notice of inspections and enforcement updates help staff proactively address any concerns and maintain consistent performance.
The Hilltop facility, permitted to process an average of 5.1 million gallons of wastewater per day, operates with highly efficient treatment systems including oxidation ditches, secondary clarifiers, and gas chlorination. These systems support the city’s commitment to high standards in public service and infrastructure reliability.
