Kingman Pro Rodeo to host annual Rodeo Royalty pageant

KINGMAN – Kingman Pro Rodeo will be hosting its annual Andy Devine Pro Rodeo Royalty contest on Saturday, March 29 at the Mohave County Fairgrounds. The event begins at 8 a.m. and is free and open to the public.

The event features young ladies aged 12-23 who will compete to be rodeo queens. Those aged 16-23 will compete to become Queen while those aged 12-15 will compete to become Teen Queen.

The event begins with Horsemanship where riders will exhibit their ability to ride and handle horses, complete an individual interview, and then exhibit a sponsor flag run and hot lap.

The “Meet & Greet” pageant is a formal event that will follow the horsemanship portion of the day, and is closed to the public. Contestants will then give an introductory speech and answer impromptu questions, followed by a second more personal interview with judges. They will also take a written test on Rodeo knowledge, Equine Science and local, state and national knowledge.

Judges will determine the winner using score sheets, and the winners will be announced in the arena at a separate event—the Andy Devine Pro Rodeo—on Sunday, April 13.

The winner in each category will receive a crown, buckle and sash to keep. She will also get traveling chaps to wear wherever she reigns across the state promoting the sport of Rodeo and the western lifestyle. The Queen also receives travel money and a trophy saddle, while the Teen Queen gets a trophy breast collar.

Contestants are also eligible for category prizes, including Miss Congeniality, Most Sponsorship, Written Test and the coveted Horsemanship Award.
