KINGMAN – The Kingman Police Department, in conjunction with the Western AZ DUI Task Force, will be out providing extra patrol for the Super Bowl LVIII looking for impaired drivers. This year the Super Bowl LVIII falls on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Get ahead of the game and create your game plan now. If you’re going out to a Super Bowl party and you plan to drink alcohol, make sure you plan for a designated driver to get you home safely at the end of the night. If you’re hosting a party, prepare plenty of food and non-alcoholic drink options for your guests, especially for the designated drivers. If you’re a designated driver, be the night’s MVP and keep that commitment front and center.
Arizona has severe penalties for impaired drivers which is recognized as a violent crime. Anyone arrested for DUI drugs or DUI alcohol will go to jail and their vehicle will be impounded. The average cost of a DUI offense is close to $10,000 (fines, court fees, vehicle impound, insurance rates, etc…). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 13,000 people are killed in drunk-driving crashes annually, and nearly one person is killed every 39 minutes. In fact, fatalities in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes increased from 14% to 31%.
The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety provided the Kingman Police Department with grant funding for overtime to have additional officers assigned for enforcement and detection during times where the likelihood of impaired drivers is increased, usually around holidays and sporting/special events.
The Kingman Police Department wants to remind those that plan to use an impairing substance or choose to drink alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver, taxi or rideshare. If you suspect an impaired driver please contact law enforcement.
