Kingman officer-involved shooting under investigation

KINGMAN – An Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) incident unfolded in Kingman on Friday, Dec. 29. Deputy Kingman police chief Joel Freed said officers responded at about 7:40 p.m. to a report that domestic violence had occurred in a home in the 1700 block of Golden Gate Ave.

“While officers were arriving, Andrew Philip Romero, 39, Kingman, exited the residence with a firearm, refused to drop it and pointed the firearm towards officers,” Freed said. “An officer fired their weapon striking Romero.”

Freed said Romero received medical attention on scene and was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center before he was flown in critical condition for further treatment at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.

The unidentified officer was placed on leave while the Lake Havasu City police department conducts an independent investigation, both standard procedures for OIS incidents.
