Is our mayor in hiding?

Dear Editor,

Last month, a group of my fellow Kingman citizens invited Mayor Jen Miles to speak to us in a local church all-purpose room. As concerned Kingman residents, we wanted to ask her about current issues as they relate to everyone in our community, such as, why masks were still required in city buildings when the city mandate had been lifted, her take on recent recall efforts and why Kingman roads remain in disrepair.

From the moment our spokesman contacted her, she appeared hesitant and somewhat suspicious, asking who would be in attendance, what we wanted to know and what our motives were. She immediately complained she was uncomfortable meeting on our turf and that, if we wanted to meet with her at all, we should mask up and prepare for social distancing at City Hall, and that City Manager Ron Foggin and other staff she deemed necessary would be in attendance.

Since this was unacceptable to us, we offered a Zoom meeting alternative, to which she agreed, again with Foggin and staff present. We sent her the Zoom credentials and prepared for the meeting, with much enthusiasm and anticipation that our Mayor was at long last, making herself available to her constituents.

Our foolish belief that Miles was, in fact, prepared to honor her commitment to serve the citizens of Kingman was dashed a few days later when she cancelled the engagement altogether. This incident has left us baffled and disappointed that her fear and obvious paranoia has clearly infringed on our First Amendment right “for a redress of grievances”.

Until she surfaces and faces the electorate who put her in office, we have no choice but to view Mayor Miles as weak, fearful, ineffective and corrupt. Prove us wrong, Mayor, come out of hiding, step out, stand up, honor your constituents and lead!

  1. Jen Miles is serving the Citizens of Kingman. My family has lived in this area since the days of the Old West and I can tell you we all support her 100%. The views expressed by the autbor of this letter are reprehensible. Mayor Miles is among the legendary Mayors of Kingman like Joe Torres and Les Byram. The author of this letter is sadly out of step with the facts at hand and the need of our Community to maintain safety is this terrible pandemic. I have a real problem mollycoddling the narracistic selfishness of this author and their ilk. They are so out of touch with public opinion it is astounding! Did you know that a mere 600,000 Americans died in the Flu Pandemic of 1918; we are knocking on that door with 500,000+ dead yet here we are listening to this drivel!!!!

  2. Why on earth do these people think they can keep harassing and intimidating the mayor? what if someone were doing the same to your wife, your mother, your daughter? you say she is hiding, but maybe mayor miles is being a lady and not indulging your ignorance. And before you entitled panties get in a bunch take a long look in the mirror and realize that you are nothing but a woman hating anti government Moran throwing tantrums and inciting terror.

  3. She’s very busy being very important, talking to important people, and angling to saddle us with impact fees and bonded debt, neither of which can be spent on our crumbling roads. Our top priorities should be street maintenance, not millions on new infrastructure when we can’t take care of what we have, or a newTaj Mahal for the fire chief.

  4. No wonder Miles would not accept. Look who’s inviting. I would never accept ANY invitation from Kris Rodarte for the simple fact that she’s hooked up with a bunch of radicals like Bridget Langston who cause nothing but trouble. During Rodarte’s “Call-To-The-Public” drama, I see theatrics, and I hear nothing but lies, sensationalism, and propaganda. Going to any event planned by these two is like Daniel going into the Lion’s den. I don’t see Miles hiding from anyone but it’s nice to know that she had 12 pastors from 11 different churches in the Kingman area who spoke during the National Day of Prayer Thursday (2 days after this article was submitted). This county should be tired of people like Rodarte already. Enough is enough.
