LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City partners with Mohave County Sherriff’s Office and Arizona Game and Fish to install new fishing dock anchors at Site Six, requiring a temporary closure of the area. For the safety of the public and all involved, the fishing pier, launch ramp, and access to all boat traffic in and out of the Site Six waterway is closed to the public next Thursday, August 22, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Large equipment is needed on the launch ramp to assist with lifting and loading 2500 pound anchors onto the barge, as well as, three divers in the water. Once the anchors are set in place, the divers attach the new cables and chain from the lake bottom to the underside of the fishing dock.
Site Six, officially known as Lake Havasu Auxiliary Field #6, was acquired by the Army Air Forces during World War II as an emergency landing field for the Kingman Army Air Field’s Yucca Aerial Gunnery Range. In 1944, the site was improved for use as a rest and convalescent camp where servicemen enjoyed swimming, fishing, boating, and hiking activities.
Today, Site Six is a frequented public recreational boating facility with a newly installed launch ramp, that is the only free launch ramp in Lake Havasu City. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation for the necessary temporary closure, as we continue to make improvements in the area to enhance the safety and overall experience for everyone at Site Six.
