KINGMAN, Ariz. – In following Governor Ducey’s Executive Order (2020-18) “Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected,” the Governor has asked Arizonans to limit their time away from their residences, but if people need to leave their homes, they practice physical distancing (six-feet apart) to slow the spread of COVID-19. This Executive Order expires April 30, 2020, unless extended by the Governor. Furthermore, Governor Ducey’s Executive Order (2020-12) “Prohibiting the Closure of Essential Services,” is still to be followed; list of “essential services,” can be found here: https://azgovernor.gov/governor/news/2020/03/list-essential-services. At this point the City of Kingman is not planning any business closures beyond those required in the Governor’s Executive Orders, but city officials urge all businesses to take responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Kingman Mayor Jen Miles said, “If your business cannot comply with CDC guidelines of social distancing, then I am asking you to reevaluate your necessity of putting your staff and the public at risk of spreading this deadly virus. Business owners need to take responsibility for their staff and the public, and help the community slow the spread.”
“The city has taken responsibility and has extended our closure to the public in order to protect our staff,” City Manager Ron Foggin said. “We’re just asking local businesses to follow guidelines supported by President Trump, Governor Ducey, and many healthcare professionals,” Foggin said.
At this time, the Governor’s list of “essential businesses,” is very broad, and the City of Kingman, along with many other cities, are awaiting further guidance from the Governor’s office for a more-narrow list of “essential services.” Governor Ducey’s office can be contacted here: https://azgovernor.gov/engage/form/contact-governor-ducey
Mohave County currently has seven confirmed positive COVID-19 cases, with four of those cases being located in the City of Kingman. To protect the health of our City team members and the public, all residents will be required to make requests for services remotely, through mail, email, online platforms, and telephone. City team members will be allowed into the buildings and are expected to work on-site to keep the City of Kingman operating to serve our residents. Dispatch, Fire, and Police will operate at normal levels.
