Homeowner holds alleged burglar at gunpoint until law enforcement arrives

Uriah Jason Rios Jr.

FT. MOHAVE – Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called to a residence in the 1600 block of La Entrada for a reported prowler on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The homeowner advised that they had the suspect detained, on the ground at gunpoint. When deputies arrived on scene the homeowner advised he observed the door to one of his vehicles was open.

Upon further inspection, he observed another vehicle had the door cracked open with the suspect’s leg sticking out of the door. The reporting party then drew his handgun and ordered the suspect out of the vehicle and onto the ground before calling law enforcement.

Uriah Jason Rios Jr., 22 of Bullhead City, was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted theft of means of transportation, possession of burglary tools, and third degree burglary, all felonies, and disorderly conduct and trespassing, both misdemeanors.

According to an MCSO spokesperson, when asked, Rios advised he had been drinking and woke up inside the vehicle. A search of Rios revealed two vehicle keys and two key fobs similar to the style used for the vehicle in his pocket.
