Heroin confiscated after SUV crash

BULLHEAD CITY – A Mexican national was arrested after traffic and foot pursuit activity with police in Bullhead City resulted in the injury of civilians. Bullhead City police department spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said an officer used his lights and siren to warn the operator of a speeding SUV to slow down at 12:15 p.m. Monday in the area of highway 95 and Meadows Drive.

Fromelt said the officer subsequently witnessed the vehicle run a red light.

“When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the SUV driven by Alberto Alvarez sped off,” Fromelt said. “The officer was able to catch up to the vehicle, but soon came across a motor vehicle accident at Lakeside Drive and Marina Boulevard, where the suspect’s SUV had crashed into another vehicle.”

Fromelt said two people in the second vehicle were flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of their serious injuries.

Alvarez, 25, fled the crash scene on foot but was detained for police by citizens, according to Fromelt. She said a plastic bag Alvarez tossed into a yard on Harbor Drive was recovered and it contained about 35 grams of heroin.

Fromelt said more heroin, drug paraphernalia and a weapon were confiscated during a search of the Alvarez SUV. He was booked into jail for various drug and weapon offenses.
