Hasler gets five years for child pornography

KINGMAN – Defense attorney Bob Heieck contends methamphetamine addiction fueled child pornography involvement that sends a Lake Havasu City man to prison. Heick spoke at Monday’s sentencing hearing for Brian Hasler, 57.

Hasler entered a plea agreement convicting him of two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. The Mohave County Attorney’s Office said Hasler uploaded to his cloud account videos of underage children engaged in various sexual activity between February and April, 2023.

Judge Billy Sipe said this case is more serious than some others given that 23 videos in all are involved and because he said the defendant apparently paid others to access their child pornography material.

Heick said Hasler’s criminal activity occurred when he was under the influence of drugs. “That is what really was at issue with this case and his conduct,” Heieck said.

“This is a higher level of reprehensible conduct than we usually see in these types of cases,” Sipe said.

A five-year prison sentence was ordered, a typical resolution of such cases locally. Sipe had discretion in length of post-prison probation, and he ordered lifelong supervision, along with sex offender registration protocols.
