Golden Valley drug case heads to Jan. 4 hearing

courtroom Interior of courtroom

GOLDEN VALLEY — A Golden Valley woman faces a possible prison sentence for a drug seizure at her residence in the 3600 block of Bowie Drive. A plea agreement entered Oct. 27 convicts Sandy Carignan, 71 of a charge reduced to facilitation to possess dangerous drugs for sale.

Deputy Mohave County attorney Tonda Hill told the Court that investigation of another subject suspected of selling drugs led to an Aug., 2020 search at the home of the defendant. Hill said about one-quarter ounce of methamphetamine was located in a safe found in Carignan’s bedroom.

Hill said that Carignan allowed her son’s friend to use the safe to store his drugs. Carignan tried to backpedal from that but ultimately conceded she knew illegal drugs for sale were stored in her safe.

Judge Ryan Esplin scheduled a Jan. 4 sentencing hearing. Carignan is eligible for probation, but she also faces up to 18 months in prison, at the discretion of the Court.
