Ft. Mohave woman sentenced for child neglect

FT. MOHAVE – A Fort Mohave woman has been placed on probation after her five-year-old daughter wandered from her home on separate days in January. The little girl was unharmed when rescued by Good Samaritans when she ran naked through a busy intersection in the area of Camp Mohave Drive and Calle Del Media in Fort Mohave on Jan. 18.

“Fortunately for the child and everyone, the child was not harmed,” Judge Doug Camacho said during the Oct. 17 sentencing hearing for Jamie Cox, 37. The Judge expressed his gratitude for those who interceded on the child’s behalf.

“It was not purposeful. I didn’t hurt my daughter,” Cox told the Court. “I love my daughter.”

Though she pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse, Judge Camacho noted that the case was more about parental supervision failure and neglect, rather than intentional abuse of any kind.

Camacho noted Cox’ effort to better herself and her engagement in parental improvement classes. He imposed no further jail time and placed her on probation for three years.
