Freedom

Dear Editor,

Freedom. What does that mean to you Americans? When I was a boy there is something we always started the day at school with. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The meant a lot to me. I felt good about my country and my heritage of freedom and justice.

Now, what do you believe in America? Nearly 70% of you think it would be all right to have a socialist president. I guess America doesn’t mean much to you or our values.

A very dear friend of mine has a granddaughter, 17 years old, that is on suicide watch, in a facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I thought that was shocking. At church Bible study I really got a shock. Two sixth graders are on suicide watch, in one class in our public schools. One of them in our state, in our city. How many others all across our nation are on suicide watch. How many anxious parents are wringing their hands and asking why!

It’s actually pretty simple. It’s in your schools, in the curriculum of your schools. It’s being told you’re your own God! It’s parents who are too busy trying to live the so-called American dream. Killing themselves to achieve it with no time between texting, video games, and FaceBook! Buying that new truck or car to spend time with your own child more than a few minutes a day. I heard that we spend less than an hour a day as a family talking to each other. Is it any wonder that there are sixth graders on suicide watch? Wake up America!

Sit down and listen to them, what their concerns are, what their dreams are. Take away their video games, their texting for a few precious minutes a day. Play a game with them, build a model, live their world a little every day. Aren’t they worth it?

One day a week, do it, America. Before it’s too late!
