LAKE HAVASU CITY – The San Gabriel Fire Department Fire Hogs will be honoring a fallen hero this month with their annual Don Shawver Memorial Ride. Each October, the department pays homage to the retired firefighter of the Arcadia Fire Department Don Shawver who passed away from job-related cancer.
The Shawver family participates in the annual celebration while sharing Shawver’s love of motorcycle riding. The memorial ride is a two-day celebration of his life.
Friday the Fire Hogs will be hosting a boat poker cruise that will take attendees around Lake Havasu for best and worst poker hands. Saturday will be all about motorcycles as riders will collect poker hands and have a gathering for a 50/50 raffle drawing after the ride.
Tickets for the Fire Hogs boat poker cruise and motorcycle ride can be purchased by visiting the SGVFD website. The boat poker cruise will be taking place on Friday, October 25 at 8 a.m. under the Fire Hog banner at the London Bridge Channel. Saturday’s motorcycle ride will be on Saturday, October 26 at 8 a.m. at Northside Grill.
Proceeds of participants will go to the Firefighters Cancer Support Network. Each year, this event keeps Shawver’s memory and legacy alive by celebrating his brave spirit.
