Fatal fire in Meadview

MEADVIEW – A fire fatality investigation is ongoing in Meadview. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred Friday, Jan. 19 at a property in the 26000 block of N. Sandy Point Dr.

Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said arriving deputies were advised a female subject was still inside the structure being used as a domicile that was destroyed by fire. She said a male subject indicated he had been cooking inside when he retrieved water outside before hearing an explosion and finding fire when he re-entered.

“The male subject attempted to put the fire out using fire extinguishers, and when that did not work he went to retrieve the female subject,” Mortensen said. “The male was not able to remove her from the residence.”

Authorities did locate a deceased subject in the dwelling. Positive identification is pending with the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office.
