Extreme winds caused power outages for MEC members

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – Due to high winds, there have been multiple outages in the last two days for Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) members.

On Tuesday, January 7, for approximately 10 minutes, 1,686 members were affected near Silver Creek in Bullhead City. Crews repaired a primary line when two primary phases made contact. Unrelated to the winds, a broken water line in Bullhead City was spraying on a transformer causing an approximate half hour outage for 34 members near Lakeside Drive. Another outage on Tuesday, January 7 affected 32 members when a tree limb made contact with the primary line in Mohave Valley.

In the evening for fewer than 2 hours, 23 members in Fort Mohave and 18 members in Mohave Valley experienced tree-branch related outages. 17 commercial members in Kingman near Hayden Peak experienced on-and-off outages for 12 hours due to extreme wind.

January 8, there were 3,073 MEC members without power in the Hancock area of Bullhead City for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. 66 members in Mohave Valley and 21 members in Bullhead City near Mohave Drive also experienced an outage due to high winds and were restored by midday.
