Elks Lodge to host its annual Fishing for Smiles in May

KINGMAN – Kingman Elks Lodge #468 and Mohave Sportsman Club will be hosting two annual Fishing for Smiles events in May. The Youth Day Fishing for Smiles event for kids ages 5-15 will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A Special Needs Community event will also be held on May 20. Both events will be held at the Dunton Ranch, located on Fort Rock Road, east of Kingman.

Preregistration is required for this event, which will take on Saturday April 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Smith’s Food & Drug—located at 3490 Stockton Hill Road. Anyone that misses this preregistration event may contact the Elks Lodge Office at (928)-753-3557 or visit the lodge at 900 Gates Ave. in Kingman.

Fishing for Smiles is free to attend and will include a free barbecue lunch, as well as snacks and drinks for attendees. Three trophies will be given to “Fisherkids” that produce the Heaviest Fish, the Longest Fish, and the newest award—Heaviest Stringer Weight (three fish limit). Children on Youth Day are free to keep up to three fish that they catch. Special Needs Day, however, is a catch and release day, so there will not be a fish cleaning station available.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Bait will be provided, and volunteers will be available to assist with bait and pole. Attendees are recommended to wear comfortable clothes, closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat.

The event is also sponsored by Kingman Regional Medical Center, Bureau of Land Management, and the Arizona Game and Fish Department. For more information, contact Fred Hearring at the Elks Lodge Office at (928)-753-3557, or by email at fhearring@gmail.com.
