Electoral College helps keep balance between states

Dear Editor,

I am writing in reference to Mr. Lloyd Dickson of Seligman’s letter, to his statement.” Do away with the Electoral College”.

I am writing with a background of service to America. I served in the Regular Army and as a Reserve Soldier for 33 years and three wars. Earning the rank of Sergeant Major. In my civilian life, I served in Law Enforcement for 39 years. From the entry position of Deputy – up to Chief Deputy and then on to Chief of Police. My family has served the Republic in the Military from service in the Revelation, Civil War, WW I. WW II, Vietnam, Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Why! To protect your rights as an Individual Citizen.

In my families and my service, were to protect the citizens of the United States of America and the Constitution from foreign and domestic attack. I have read the constitution many times. I have read the words of the signers about what their reasons for adding or subtracting words in each article or amendment.

The reason for Electoral College was that each state would have a voice in who would be President. This keeps large, populated states from controlling the elections. If the Electoral College were done away with, as Mr. Dickson suggest only California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois and Pennsylvania would control our elections. The other 45 states with their population[s] would not be equal to those five states.

A perfect example of control is here in Arizona. Maricopa (Phoenix) and Pima (Tucson) control the other 13 counties. Why! Because they hold the population and control. Do we really want this to happen in America? I am asking everyone that reads The Standard to really think of the words of wisdom that come from Seligman every week. He is right, every politician in Arizona needs to answer to all of us their reason for voting the way they do each time. Politicians are representees of the people. Not a party. Do those famous words read, We the People of THIS PARTY of the United States?
