Election Update

MOHAVE COUNTY – Donald Trump will be returning to the White House as the 47th President of the United States in January. Trump claimed America’s popular vote (75,124,460 -71,869,101) and the electoral college battle (312-226) to defeat Kamala Harris in an election that was not as close as had been expected.

Trump beat Harris in all of the battleground states. After being edged by Democrat Joe Biden in Arizona in 2000, Trump is the projected winner in the Grand Canyon state with a lead of more than 182,000 votes as of Tuesday, Nov. 12.

As he did in 2016 and 2020, Trump claimed Mohave County by a landslide. Trump thumped Harris in northwest Arizona with roughly 72% of the vote (84,153-23,777).

Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego is one of the rare bright spots for Democrats in Arizona. The five-term Congressman is the projected winner over republican Kari Lake with a lead of nearly 73,000 votes (1,600,923-1,528,297) for the U.S. senate seat not defended by Kyrsten Sinema

District 9 Congressman Paul Gosar is handily defeating democratic challenger Quacy Smith with more than 65% (240,393-127,863) of the vote.

Republicans sweep state legislative seats in northwest Arizona. Leo Biasiucci and John Gillette win re-election with exiting Mohave County supervisor Hildy Angius joining them as state senator in Dist. 30.

Angius breezed by Democrat J’aime MorgAine with more than almost 78% (90,694-25,009) of ballots tabulated by Nov 12.

Arizona voters approved Proposition 139. The fundamental right to abortion measure drew favor from more than 61% of the electorate (1,912,208-1,193,758).

Proposition 140, the proposed primary election reform measure, is being rejected by nearly 59% (1,750,537-1,222,690) of the Arizona electorate.

Republicans swept Democrats in Mohave County races up and down the general election ballot. Travis Lingenfelter, Sonny Borrelli and Ron Gould each claimed Board of Supervisor seats with landslide defeats of democrats while Don Martin beat both a democrat and an independent to win in Dist. 4.

Unopposed incumbents winning for the local GOP include Sheriff Doug Schuster, County Attorney Matt Smith, Assessor Jeanne Kentch, Treasurer SueAnn Mello, Recorder Lydia Durst and Superior Court Judge Rick Williams.

Republican John Warren was unchallenged and he’ll succeed retiring County School Superintendent Mike File.

In non-partisan contests, Kingman voters are narrowly approving the proposed general plan. The development planning guide is passing by just 187 votes (7,267-7,080).

Two governing board seats are up for grabs in the Kingman Unified School District. Susan Collins (13,952) leads Boyd Hardy (11,927) and Starr Jensen (10,083).

All results are unofficial pending canvas.
