Drug bust on Interstate 40

Large quantities of an assortment of drugs were seized following a Monday traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Kingman. Mohave County Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said an ADOT Enforcement Division K9 responded to the scene to assist deputies.

“The K9 alerted to the presence of the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle,” Mortensen said. She said a thorough search of the vehicle produced the confiscation of 9.8 pounds of cocaine, 2.5 pounds of heroin and 1.3 pounds of packaged counterfeit oxycodone pills suspected of containing fentanyl.

Mortensen said the driver of the vehicle, a Mexican citizen identified as Marco Antonio Diaz, age undisclosed, was booked into the Adult Detention center for transportation and possession of narcotic drugs for sale charges. She said the combined street value of the illegal drugs is estimated at $477,900.
