Dear Editor,
The LMRFD is supported by a few thousand taxpayers in Dolan Springs and Meadview. Its two-personnel cover fire and EMS service for a 3300 sq. mi. area, including 100+ miles of State Hwy and county roads servicing traffic to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Taxpayers are frequently left with no fire or EMS coverage while their ambulance runs calls on Highway 93.
It is essential that the LMRFD include volunteers on its roster for any hope of fire or EMS service for those who foot the bill! There must be funding included for volunteer training/support. Chair Debora Cass actively fought (unsuccessfully) against a $10,000 line item for volunteers in the budget for 19/20. It was removed in the 20/21 budget. Board Clerk Steve Berg voted for the 20/21 budget without any designated funds for the volunteer program.
Vote Cass and Berg out in November!

The LMRFD is 144 square miles, the LMRFD ambulance CON covers 2200 square miles (not 3300) US93 in Mohave County is the most dangerous section, of the most dangerous highway in the US. The same 2 firefighters who drive the fire trucks, also drive the ambulance… Anyone see a problem? Fire call, no ambulance… Ambulance call, no fire truck… Fire with injured people????

Thanks for the correction on the CON, Jay. My bad. The Fire District, however, was 144 sq. miles BEFORE Grapevine Mesa FD (Meadview) consolidated in, in 2010. So the Fire District has actually increased by whatever those checkerboard properties resulted in. Nit picky details. You reinforced the main issue… 2 personnel covering a huge area for both fire and ambulance. We NEED a volunteer program in the District and we NEED a Board and Administration that will support it! Vote CASS AND BERG OUT in November!

There is SO MUCH corruption going on within the means of the fire board members. NO oversight for the Administrative Assistant, as she has been allowed to “work from home” FOR YEARS. Nobody can argue when she claims overtime, as she does frequently. The new chief is a close friend of the board members and Administrative Assistant, hand picked without ANY advertisement or other interviews for the position. The Administrative Assistant asked the board to hire her “good friend” who now works along with the AA at her home! Nothing was presented to the tax payers prior to this decision. The taxpayers were forced OUT of the last meeting, being told due to the COVID 19 they were not allowed in, even though they had masks, gloves and hand sanitizer. The board members were sitting at a small table LESS than 6 feet apart during the meeting, NO MASKS, NO GLOVES, yet they would not let the public attend the meeting! What are they hiding? A LOT. More than anyone can imagine. ALL of the current board members need to be GONE. The corruption is so deep if we don’t clean house NOW, we will end up with NO FIRE DEPARTMENT at all.
