KINGMAN – Dig It Community Garden will be hosting an open house on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gardens, 2301 Lillie Ave. The free event is open to the public. Residents are invited to come and tour Kingman’s first community garden and meet some of the gardeners who grow there. Food vendors, musicians and people who would like to display their garden goods should contact Denise at 928-530-8072.
Stop by Cecil Davis Park, right next to the garden, as the Kingman Master Gardeners will be holding their Second Annual Tomato Fest, with tomato judging beginning at 10 a.m. For more information on the Tomato Fest, contact Nancy at 307-247-4823.
Quilt sale to benefit a softball scholarship fund
KINGMAN – There will be a Quilt Sale on Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dig It Kingman Community Gardens, 2301 Lillie Avenue near Cecil Davis Park. The quilt sale is in conjunction with Community Garden’s Open House. All donations go directly to the Softball Scholarship Fund in Memory of Tatum Meins and Sherene Walema.
Quilt maker and collector, Jan Ellwood, has decided to donate her quilts that she has collected over 30 years. She is excited to have the proceeds go to this good cause.
Quilt Buyers, Quilt Lovers and Quilt Collectors will enjoy the many bed quilts on display. Some are modern and others vintage going back to 1910. They are made with different fabrics, including wool! Many quilts are hand appliqued, hand tied or hand quilted. Patterns include wedding ring, log cabin, grandma’s flower garden, fan, star on point, t-shirt, square in square, purple floral, double butterfly, star and crazy, court house step variation, thunderbird, log cabin star, flying geese, crown of flowers from 1910, embroidered baskets, Amish, floral with scalloped edge, purple and green fan, cathedral window, baskets, vintage patchwork tied, vintage wool tied, patch work, stain glass, nine patch with prairie points, butterfly, pineapple, postage stamp, and more.
If buyers would like to purchase a quilt to donate to the Veteran’s new 24-unit facility, we can accommodate that also. Donations will also be accepted for the scholarship cause.
Cash and checks with ID will be accepted. Quilts are $100 each.
