Globally we are steeped in pain and turmoil, particularly here in America. Despite this disharmony, September 21, the International Day of Peace (IDOP) beckons humanity, and the entire world of life, forward to peace nonetheless!
This year’s global theme for IDOP is: Reflection. Education. Celebration. Interesting word combination and meshes well with Kingman’s theme which is: ”Create Peace”. Kingman’s event is scheduled to be held at Lewis Kingman (Dog) Park), 2201 East Andy Devine Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In keeping with Kingman’s theme, ”Create Peace”, planned activities include creative endeavors such as face painting, instruction in origami folding of peace cranes and additions to peace flags made last year, etc.
Assuredly, as the September 21 IDOP event draws closer, more plans will evolve, and just prior to the event an additional article will appear in the paper as a reminder. In keeping with previous years, this early summer article is just a ”countdown teaser” so to speak, so you can put the event in your calendar. Hopefully, COVID-19 will not intrude in plans for IDOP.
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic this event sadly may or may not occur as planned. However, peace cannot be stopped! Historically, peace flows inexorably forward both through good and bad times.
If you are unable to attend the September 21 IDOP observance at Lewis Kingman Park due either to COVID-19 concerns or you simply have other plans that conflict with that date and time …. don’t despair! Follows are suggestions for your participation nonetheless.
On September 21 at noon simply stop what you are doing for a minute or two and reflect on the need for peace in our world. Allow your being to resonate with our earth, life and humanity … and offer your positive peaceful energy to the universe and those around you! It’s that simple. Plus you can always go online to find instructions for folding your own peace crane.
Despite the above suggested alternative we hope to see you if not in person then in spirit , at Kingman’s fourth observance of IDOP on September 21.
