KINGMAN – A leader in the wood framing industry is setting up shop at the Kingman Airport Industrial Park. Colt Builders has purchased ten acres of undeveloped land from Bulk Industrial to establish a plant to produce prefabricated wood wall panels.
A city-issued news release said the company will initially invest $3-million and up to $6 million more during phased in development that could eventually produce 50 new jobs. Necessary infrastructure includes a rail spur, a production building, two large lumber storage buildings, internal roadways and utilities.
Vice President Janusz Sakowicz said the company operates another production facility in New Brunswick, Canada and selected Kingman as the site to serve markets in the western United States.
“We decided on Kingman for a number of reasons – central location to our expanding markets in Northern and Southern California, Arizona and the Mountain region,” Sakowicz said. “Key elements such as highway and rail network available, the existence of the Kingman Airport Industrial Park with ample raw land available, the favorable labor market in the region and the tax advantages offered were definitely major decision factors.”
Sakowicz said the rail spur was critically necessary to ensure delivery of lumber and sheathing goods to fabricate wall panels.
Preconstruction Manager Jeb. S. Syler said Mohave County and City of Kingman officials were helpful and cooperative in the site selection process.
Industrial Park manager Bennett Bratley said landing the wall panel plant is a solid community addition and a sign of more good things to come.
“Quality companies like Colt Builders will continue to choose Kingman which means more jobs for our residents. It also translates into additional revenue to support our schools, recreational amenities, public safety and improvement to our infrastructure,” Bratley said. “We will continue to make it our priority to market the Kingman Industrial Pak in an effort to bring quality companies to our area.”
