City of Kingman to Showcase Historic Properties During First Friday

Kingman, Arizona, USA - October 24, 2018: Welcome to Kingman downtown, a wide arched street sign located on historic route 66.

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman will host a special event highlighting historic properties and recent revitalization projects from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, September 5, as part of First Friday activities presented by the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce.  The evening will feature a guided walkthrough of the Beale Street Theater and spotlight renovation efforts across several key Kingman properties. The event will emphasize how adaptive reuse and restoration projects support local economic development and create lasting community benefits.

Several local entrepreneurs have successfully reimagined historic spaces, including:

  • Beale Street Theater (402 E. Beale St.), now home to the Kingman Center for the Arts
  • Liquid Coffee Shop & Bistro (510 E. Beale St.)
  • Kingman Powerhouse (120 W. Andy Devine Ave.)
  • Scoops on 66 (207 E Andy Devine Ave.)

These projects have transformed underutilized buildings into vibrant community spaces that welcome both residents and visitors.

In addition to property tours, attendees will learn about opportunities for free property environmental assessments, technical assistance, and cleanup planning for previously used, vacant, or underutilized properties. The program aims to equip property owners with tools and resources to move forward with successful redevelopment projects.

When properties have uncertain or incomplete histories, they can be difficult to sell, lease, or finance. To address this, Mohave County, the City of Kingman, and the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) were awarded a $1.5 million U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Program grant in 2024. The grant helps transform properties from liabilities into assets by removing concerns over potential environmental issues, making them more attractive to investors, buyers, and developers.

The grant provides for Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, asbestos and lead-based paint sampling, and the development of reuse and cleanup plans that make properties more attractive to investors and developers. Community members interested in learning more about the program or nominating a property are encouraged to visit: https://nacog.org/route-66-brownfield-site-revitalization/

This event is free and open to the public, including community members, business and property owners, and local leaders interested in property revitalization.
