City council seats may be up for grabs in fall election

KINGMAN – Two incumbents whose terms of office expire at the end of the year are the only citizens to submit nominating petitions to run for Mayor or Kingman City Council seats in the summer-fall election cycle. Mayor Jen Miles and council member Jamie Scott Stehly are officially seeking new terms in their respective offices.

Council members Travis Lingenfelter and David Wayt will apparently not defend their seats in the August primary. Lingenfelter did not pull a packet at city hall and has instead declared interest in running for the District 1 Mohave County Supervisor seat being vacated by virtue of Gary Watson’s retirement.

Wayt has been asked several times about his intention, but he only said that he was considering things with his family. He is likely exiting office because he has not picked up nominating petitions and they are due by Monday, April 6 with a minimum 289 valid signature requirement.

Fifteen other citizens picked up materials at city hall, but how many of them will submit nominating petitions is very uncertain given upheaval associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group of 15 includes William Arredondo, Timothy Griep, Joe Newlon, Andrew Armayo, Jeff Adams, Sarah Ferry, Cherish Sammeli, Longfeather Fox, Rhys Campbell, Erin DePrater, Keith Walker, Marco Guerrero, William Franzen, Brandon Loumeister and Matthew Dupont.
