Chafin pleads in Bullhead shooting case

BULLHEAD CITY – A mandatory prison plea agreement has been entered in a Bullhead City shooting case. Tony Chafin, 40, pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge on August 28.

An attempted second-degree murder charge and a prohibited weapons possession offense are dismissed in the deal.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Matt Houston said Chafin shot the adult male victim after a verbal argument escalated in the 800 block of Roadrunner Avenue on April 9. He said the victim who ended up being treated at a trauma center in Las Vegas sustained shoulder and collarbone injuries from the gunshot.

Chafin fled the scene of the violence but was arrested the next day in the 3500 block Bay Sands Drive in Laughlin. Bullhead City police reported that a weapon was discovered during an apartment search at that location.

Terms of the plea deal require Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle to order a five- to 10-year prison term during a September 24 sentencing hearing.
