Vision screenings coming to schools in Arizona

Governor Ducey has signed SB 1456, a bill sponsored by Senator Sylvia Allen that directs schools in Arizona to provide vision screening services to students. Hearing evaluations have been performed in schools for decades by the Department of Health Services. SB 1456 will now provide a framework to bring vision screenings into schools. “When a child can’t see properly, they will of course struggle in school,” said Senator Allen, Chair of the Senate Committee on Education. “And young children don’t necessarily know they have vision issues. Governor signs historic water bill to study Mohave and La Paz County’s groundwater levels

Toward the end of this past state legislative session, Governor Ducey signed into law HB2467 (committees; west basin water users), which establishes a 10-member Mohave County West Basin Water Users Study Committee and a 10-member La Paz County West Basin Water Users Study Committee to analyze groundwater withdrawal data and make recommendations to the Arizona Department of Water Resources on programs and policies for the basins. Each Committee is required to submit a report of its recommendations to the department, the Governor and the Legislature by December 31, 2021.
