KINGMAN – After starting the Kingman Area Literacy Program (KALP) seven years ago, director Chris Meisenheimer is retiring. “I started this program because teaching people to read is one of the best ways to lift them out of poverty,” said Meisenheimer. “Literacy’s value cannot be underestimated.” KALP tutors provide free tutoring to people of all ages, abilities and needs. Tutors have helped students with reading, writing, math, GED, English as a second language, and citizenship tests. KINGMAN – The City of Kingman Community Development Division has been working with Lisa Wise consulting for the past year to update the City of Kingman Zoning Code and expand the Downtown Historic Overlay District. The anticipated date of project completion is December 2020 or January 2021 and the city encourages public participation and input. The City of Kingman Zoning Code was initially adopted June 14, 1971. Since then, there has not been a comprehensive review or update of the code. MOHAVE COUNTY – Gyms, bars and some water business enterprises that have remain shuttered during the COVID-19 pandemic could get a reprieve Thursday. Mohave County has already met two of three benchmarks allowing them to reopen under various restrictions and regulations. “What we haven’t been meeting is the percent positivity number put out by the state. MOHAVE VALLEY – Mosquito surveillance that was conducted this week in Mohave Valley by the Mohave County Environmental Health Division (MCEHD) revealed the following locations meet the protocol to conduct fogging. The MCEHD uses the CDC’s recommended matrix as a guide regarding when to fog. FOGGING: Adult mosquito control application will begin this Thursday evening September 3 around 8:00 pm, weather permitting.
