MOHAVE COUNTY – An avalanche of early voting is beginning today throughout Mohave County. Well more than half of the county’s 127,000 registered voters have requested mail ballots to vote in front of the upcoming August 4 primary election. “Right now we have over 74,000 early ballot requests,” Recorder Kristi Turley said. They’ll be mailed out en masse starting today, though properly registered voters can request them up until July 24. Kingman Crossing, Rancho Santa Fe interchanges, airport development in the works KINGMAN – Various preliminary approvals came Tuesday for three major projects that Kingman officials hope improve transportation and stimulate economic development that will increase tax base and brings jobs for the future. Two of the initiatives gaining early stage thumbs up from the Kingman city council are proposed Interstate-40 interchanges, situated less than two miles apart. The council approved the rezoning of four parcels proximate to the proposed Kingman Crossing, an interchange effort spearheaded by Kingman Regional Medical Center. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County is moving forward with a water conservation project that aims to mitigate agricultural depletion of the Hualapai Valley Groundwater Basin, from which Kingman depends upon for supply. The Board of Supervisors voted Monday to approve an application seeking permission to develop three infiltration basins along the Rattlesnake Wash in north Kingman. Project leader Nick Hont told supervisors that sand and gravel soil composition makes the selected areas ideal for recharge. “This is the optimal location where water will go down fast and will percolate and infiltrate fast,” Hont said. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College is encouraging people to apply now and select from list of more than 500 fall semester classes. The first classes start on August 24. To help keep students and employees healthy during the pandemic, MCC instructors have developed Remote classrooms. GRAND CANYON – On Friday, July 3 at approximately 12:35 p.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a visitor who fell from the rim west of Mather Point. Responding rangers located the body of Maria A. Salgado Lopez, 59, of Scottsdale, AZ approximately 100 ft. below the rim. Ms. Salgado Lopez had been hiking off trail and taking photographs with family when she accidentally stepped off the edge. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. No additional information is available at this time….
