Cassidy enters plea in sex exploitation

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City man is resolving his child pornography case in a plea agreement that will send him to the Arizona Department of Corrections. Casey Cassidy, 30, pleaded guilty Thursday, April 4 to two counts reduced to attempted sexual exploitation of a minor.

The convictions involve Cassidy’s receipt and possession of electronically transmitted images of underage minors engaged in sexually exploitive exhibition or activity. The plea deal dismisses 8 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor involving other sexually explicit images of children under the age of 15.

Lake Havasu City police began investigating last June when informed by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children of child pornography downloaded to a Dropbox Account traced to Cassidy. A police report indicated discovery of 81 files of illegal images in his Dropbox Account.

Cassidy faces a 5-10-year prison term when sentenced May 10 by Judge Doug Camacho.

Cassidy would ordinarily have been taken into custody following the change of plea hearing. However, attorneys agreed that he can remain free to comply with another legal obligation.

Defense attorney Paul Amann disclosed that Cassidy will testify against his brother who is being prosecuted in a Utah sex abuse case.
