Business Spotlight: River Cities United Way to host its ninth annual Day of Caring in Kingman

MISSION: To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities to advance the common good. Our vision is to create a world where every person in each community can achieve their full potential.

River Cities United Way (RCUW) will be hosting its ninth annual Day of Caring in Kingman on April 19. The Day of Caring involves volunteers from all over the community gathering to clean up litter and trash from Kingman’s public spaces.

Last year’s Day of Caring resulted in the collecting of 150 bags of trash. This time, RCUW’s goal is to double that number. More than 300 people are expected to participate in and anyone that wishes to be involved is welcome.

Volunteers will meet in the River Cities United Way parking lot on April 19 at 8 a.m. The office is located at 2202 Hualapai Mountain Road and is in the same parking lot as Foothills Bank. Volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and not to wear open-toed shoes.

Organizers will hand out needed essentials, such as gloves, trash grabbers, safety vests, waters, and snacks. Maps and locations will also be assigned during check-in, which begins at 7:30 a.m.

The Day of Caring is made possible with the help of the Kingman Downtown Merchants Association, as well as the Kingman Chamber of Commerce.

The Day of Caring is just one of the ways that RCUW helps out the community. RCUW’s 51-year history has seen the organization participating in many philanthropic things.

In 2024, RCUW provided utility assistance to 43 households, prepared 521 tax returns for residents, and gave dental supplies and oral health education to 1923 elementary school students. Some 32 volunteers working 84 hours delivered oral health education and smile kits to 1,202 kindergartners, in 50 classrooms, and 19 schools, in eight communities across two counties.

Last year, 17 students received assistance with classroom fees through RCUW’s Kids Bright And Healthy program. Some 160 hours of tutoring was also provided to math students in 3rd-6th grade.

RCUW engages in community work throughout Mohave and La Paz Counties, as well as Laughlin, NV and Needles, CA.

Ashley Wood recently joined the leadership team of River Cities United Way as its President—an organization she has worked with for 18 years. She says, “United Way is pleased to be an intricate resource for our community and has assisted those in need through the hardships they have encountered.”
