BULLHEAD CITY — Authorities presume a Bullhead City man drowned while swimming in the Colorado River near Needles, California. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office (SBCSO) identified the victim as Patrick Shields, 60.

Deputies responded at 4:51 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26 to the incident near Coors Island.

“Witnesses reported the victim had been swimming but disappeared about five minutes prior when he was returning to shore,” an SBCSO news release said. “Deputies searched approximately 300 yards south along the river and found the victim submerged in about ten feet of water.”

Life-saving measures were attempted but arriving fire department personnel pronounced Shields dead at 5:17 p.m. The incident remains under investigation.
