KINGMAN, Ariz. – Veronica Bravo has completed her sentence and has been released from the Arizona Department of Corrections for the brutal murder of a Kingman teenager more than two decades ago.
Bravo, now 37, was just 17 years old when she began serving a 21-year prison term for her involvement in the July, 2005 death of Christina Buus, 19, Kingman. She was no longer confined at the Perryville state prison in Goodyear as of July 15, her scheduled release date.
The Arizona Department of Corrections website was updated to show that Bravo is now on community supervision.
Bravo entered a plea agreement convicting her of the reduced charge of attempted first-degree murder. She testified for the state in the trial that resulted in the conviction of co-defendant Raymond Carlton, now deceased.
Carlton was 23 years old and was driving back from Las Vegas on U.S. 93 when Bravo stabbed Buus multiple times. Bravo testified that Buus begged for her life before Carlton ended it with a gunshot to the head.
Carlton was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges and was serving a natural life prison term when he died at the ASPC-Lewis prison facility last Aug. Corrections communications officials have not responded to separate requests for information about Carlton’s death.
Online Corrections information indicates Bravo had five disciplinary infractions during her long period of confinement, the last more than a decade ago. There are also indications of continuing education and involvement in online degree programs while incarcerated.
