Board will see three first-time Supervisors

MOHAVE COUNTY – Three first time Board of Supervisor candidates have won their July 30 republican party primary election contests in Mohave County. State Senator Sonny Borrelli unseats Buster Johnson, a 28-year incumbent in Dist. 3.

Borrelli garnered just under 70% of the vote (5,589-2,429) for a convincing victory. He said he appreciated a congratulatory election night text from Johnson and that they ran a clean, positive campaign without trashing one another.

“Buster Johnson deserves to be respected and honored for his service,” Borrelli said. “I’m just grateful that the primary is over and I’m looking forward to the general election.”

In the Nov. 5 general election, Borrelli will face Paul Smith, a Democrat who was unopposed in the primary.

Don Martin wins the GOP primary in Dist. 4, the most crowded race in the ballot:

Don Martin 1,492

Jennifer Esposito 1,221

Marianne Salem 1,161

Gilbert Smaby 1,129

Logan Marsh 751

Steven Robinson 718

Bill Andrews 559

Marcus Neal 248

“It’s exciting,” Martin said. “My message the whole time was I don’t want to be a politician I want to be a public servant. I want to protect our heritage, our customs and our culture.”

Martin faces Democrat Lisa Pickard and Independent Wayne Hollins in the Nov. election.

Bullhead City Council member Rich Lettman has no opposition in the general election, after topping the field in the Dist. 2 GOP primary.

Rich Lettman 2,287

Grace Hecht 2,128

Scotty McClure 1,030

Dist. 1 Supervisor Travis Lingenfelter handily defeated challenger Shawn Meisner (57.6%, 3,216-2,368). He’ll advance to the general election to face Democrat Catherine Wright.

Dist. 5 Supervisor Ron Gould (66.8%, 5,468) breezed past republican primary challengers Catherine Lopez-Rajaniemi (1,621) and Christopher Morgan (1,095). Challenging Gould in Nov. will be Democratic primary winner Brian McMahon.

Primary election results are preliminary and unofficial, pending an Aug. 8 canvas.
