MOHAVE COUNTY – Dist. 4 Mohave County Sup. Jean Bishop earned a new four-year term Nov. 3, but a Golden Valley businessman hopes to oust her from office next spring. Robert Hall launched an effort to recall Bishop one week before the general election.
“I’m very confident. We’ve already collected over 2,000 signatures and it’s only been since I filed the paperwork,” Hall said. 2,998 valid petition signatures are required to force a recall vote and Hall said they want to collect 4,000-5,000 to provide a cushion where signatures might be disqualified.
“We’re going to go for it,” Hall said. “We’re going to get her out of there.”
Hall owns the Great American Pizza eatery off of Highway 68. He believes Bishop and the county abused authority to issue his business notice to close for its inability or unwillingness to comply with coronavirus restrictions and regulations imposed by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey.
Bishop has denied direct involvement in the county health department enforcement effort involving Great American Pizza.
Hall said the recall isn’t strictly result from his business beef. He said Bishop and the county are failing Golden Valley while taxing residents without returning services they need such as utility lines and better roads.
Hall said it has not yet been decided who will run against Bishop if the proposed recall qualifies for election. “I can tell you right now we have 3 really great candidates that would put Jean out no problem,” Hall said.
