Bighorn soccer teams kick off season with wins

MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave College men’s soccer team earned their second win of the season Tuesday, Aug. 26, with a 12-0 victory over Community Christian College at Firebird Field in Rotary Park.

The game was delayed for an hour due to weather, but the Bighorns came out strong once play began, scoring nine goals in the first half alone. Erik Nava opened the scoring in the 7th minute, with an assist by Lazzar Ramos. The night finished with two goals by Alan Salgado, with assistance from Jose Alvarado and David Guzman, to help close out the match.

This victory builds on the men’s 3-0 season-opening win over Colorado Northwestern Community College Saturday, Aug. 23.

The Mohave College women’s soccer team also started strong, picking up a 3-1 win against Colorado Northwestern Saturday, Aug. 23. With both programs opening the season with back-to-back victories, the Bighorns are setting the stage for an exciting fall.

Up next, the women’s team will take the field at home 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, at Firebird Field at Rotary Park against Pima Community College. The men’s team will return to action at 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, at against Paradise Valley Community College, also at Firebird Field. Fans are encouraged to come out, support the teams, and be part of the energy this season.
