BCSD to host meeting for special ed families

BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead City School District (BCSD) will hold its annual community informational meeting to discuss special education services available to local students. The Child Find and Proportionate Share programs are grant-funded, using BCSD special educational professionals to assist students.

Referral information is also provided to parents and guardians for those children not yet in school. Child Find helps local public school districts identify students who may have a disability. The meeting will go over the process of Child Find that BCSD follows, in accordance with State and Federal laws.

Proportionate Share uses BCSD special educational professionals to assist students not enrolled in a traditional public or charter school, including those who are in private or parochial schools or are homeschooled.

There is currently one private/parochial school licensed within BCSD’s boundaries. The meeting will be held Wednesday, October 2, at 5:00 p.m., in the library at Coyote Canyon School, 1820 Lakeside Drive.

Parents and guardians of special education students eligible for either Child Find or Proportionate Share education are invited to attend. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA ’04) and the Arizona Administrative Code define Child Find requirements to ensure eligible infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children have access to early intervention or special education and related services.

Additional information is available from BCSD special education director Kate Hall at 928-758- 8858, x-1044.
