BCFD Community Risk Reduction coloring contest winners announced

BULLHEAD CITY – The Bullhead City Fire Department (BHCFD) recently implemented a Fire Safety coloring contest with the local school district. All fifth and sixth grade students from the Bullhead Middle School and Mohave Accelerated Learning Center (MALC) were encouraged to design a safety picture and message.

Each year the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) creates a theme for Fire Prevention Week. The 2019 theme “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape!”, giving students a foundation to create their safety messages. Members from the Community Risk Reduction Division collected the entries and selected two winners. Their artwork was placed on our Community Risk Reduction Vehicles to be displayed throughout the 2019-2020 school year.

The winners are Troy Omatsu and Valeria Zambrano, both fifth grade students from Bullhead Middle School. Valeria Zambrano stated, “I knew when the contest and theme were announced that I wanted superheroes, and I wanted the cape to come off of the firefighter because they don’t need capes.” Troy Omatsu stated, “He took about two hours creating the safety dog with safety messages.”

BHCFD would like to thank all of the students who entered the coloring contest for creating their outstanding safety messages.
