AZ Health Start program is free for expectant mothers

MOHAVE COUNTY – To put it lightly, women who are expecting can face many overwhelming challenges throughout their pregnancies.  A new mother may not know how to keep their child safe in their homes, the needed nutrition, or how to maintain their child’s health.

The Arizona Health Start program is a free community outreach program not just for pregnant women, but their families as well. With this program, families can get case management, social workers, nurses, and home visits until the second year of the child’s life.

Expecting mothers can benefit from the program’s depression screenings, car seat safety checks and much more.  Arizona Health Start is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. They are located at 2001 College Drive suite 122 in Lake Havasu City inside of the Mohave County Health and Social building.

In the early 1980s, the state of Arizona had a steady increase of women not receiving the correct care. These are just some of the key elements as to why the Arizona Health Start Program came to be.These findings are why the Rural Health Office of the University of Arizona College of Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine started community health worker programs. The community programs like Arizona Health Start is a beneficial program that can provide trusting relationships, emotional support, and give community resources if needed.
