Axe the Tax referendum petition invalidated

KINGMAN, Ariz. – On July 16, the Kingman City Clerk’s Office received 51 petition sheets containing 734 unverified signatures for referendum petition REF26-001, “Kingman Magforce Axe the Tax.”

Upon review, it was determined that all 51 petition sheets and the subsequent 734 unverified signatures have been invalidated because a copy of the complete title and text of the measure was not attached as prescribed.

Arizona law requires that the complete title and text of the measure be attached to the petition sheets during circulation and upon submission for filing. This requirement ensures that individuals being asked to sign have access to the full text of the measure and an opportunity to understand what they are being asked to support before signing the petition.

As a result, the applicant was notified that all 51 petition sheets were found not to comply with state law, rendering the signatures on those sheets invalid; therefore, 0 valid signatures were submitted for the proposed measure.

The City Clerk’s determination was based solely on strict compliance with Arizona State Law governing referendum petitions and does not reflect a position by the City or the City Clerk regarding the subject or merits of the measure.
