Meth powder decorates interstate; driver enters plea

KINGMAN – The driver of a moving vehicle from which pounds of methamphetamine were tossed onto Interstate 40 during a police chase entered a plea agreement Monday. Guadalupe Astorga, 44, Tulare, California is being convicted of transportation of dangerous drugs for sale. Terms of the deal require Mohave County Superior Court Judge Doug Camacho to order a five-year prison term when Astorga is sentenced on July 20. Authorities allege Astorga kept driving when a Mohave County Sheriff’s deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop for a suspected lane change violation about two miles east of Kingman. 2020 expected to be ‘extreme’ for AZ wildfires

PHOENIX – Public lands in Arizona and perhaps the Western U.S. appear to be facing the most extreme year for wildland fire in more than a decade. The month of May was a record year for fire occurrence in Arizona. Martin gets 16 years for daughter’s death

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A 16-year prison term has been ordered for the Lake Havasu City man who pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the May, 2019 death of his 18-month-old daughter. Punishment imposed during a June 19 hearing by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle was mandated in a plea agreement for Ty Martin, 24. COVID-19 update: 27 new cases, one death

MOHAVE COUNTY – Late this afternoon, the Mohave County Health Department (MCDPH) Nursing staff was notified of 27 new COVID-19 confirmed cases and one death.  The death is from a previously reported case in the Kingman service area. That person is in the 70-79 year age range.  Twenty of the new cases are in the Bullhead City service area. Six are in the Lake Havasu City service area. One is in the Kingman service area. KINGMAN – Although this is an election year of extreme importance, the Board of the Mohave Republican Forum (MRF) has unanimously determined that the “health risks” of holding in-person meetings is too great as the COVID 19 figures are trending upward. Thus, there will be no MRF meetings in June or July, prior to the early voting and Primary.  MRF  is uncertain as to when meetings will resume. MOHAVE COUNTY – The Treasurer’s Office will reopen its cashier windows to the public on Monday June 22. Mohave County Treasurer Cindy Landa Cox said, “The reopening was delayed in order to address a design issue related to our cashier windows negative airflow which is hazardous during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, our Mohave County Public Works/Facilities staff engineered a simple solution using Plexiglas remnants.” These remnants were left over from the installation of Sneeze-Guards in other county offices.
