$75,000 in grants available for development of new hunters, anglers

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is accepting applications for $75,000 in annual grant funding for local sportsmen’s organizations to provide public, hands-on projects that are focused on the progressive development of new hunters and anglers. The Local Sportsmen’s Group grants program places a high priority on projects that involve the pursuit or harvest of fish or wildlife with a valid license (and any necessary hunt permit-tag) and are geared toward participants who have the appropriate experience and skill levels relevant to a particular project. ADOT not implementing roundabout

A heavily opposed roundabout proposed as a public safety traffic control device in west Mohave County will not be installed. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has determined the roundabout will not be implemented on State Route 95 at Aztec Road. “Rather, ADOT will install protected left-turn phasing and a raised center median,” a news release stated. “Protected left-turn phasing will improve safety by only allowing left turns from SR 95 onto Aztec Road with a green arrow.” ADOT said the new plan will be sufficient in the short term. “In the long term, with a continued increase in traffic…

Lake Havasu RV fire under control in 30 minutes

Lake Havasu City firefighters put out a motor home and house fire early Friday, May 3. Fire Department personnel responded at 12:20 a.m. to the incident in the 1200 block of Mohican Drive. Authorities said flames from the RV extended into the attic of an adjacent home. Occupants safely exited the residence and crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. No one was injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Moninger convicted; will face up to 40 years

A Las Vegas man who drove to Kingman last fall to have sex with a teenager who turned out to be a detective will instead end up in the Arizona Department of Corrections, possibly for decades. A Mohave County Superior Court jury on Thursday found Kevin Harry Moninger, 63, guilty of attempted sexual conduct of a minor and three counts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation. Moninger is one of nine men snared in an undercover sting operation featuring Sheriff’s Detective Brennan Cassidy posing as a 13-year-old girl named “Sabrina”. The two largest school district in and around Bullhead City are applying for competitive 21st Century Community Learning Center grants, administered by the Arizona Department of Education.  The Bullhead City Elementary School District grant application is for Bullhead City Middle School, Desert Valley Elementary School, Diamondback Elementary School, Fox Creek Junior High and Sunrise Elementary School.
