Improvement projects ramping up along Arizona’s high country highways

With warm weather returning, the Arizona Department of Transportation is resuming projects to repair and preserve the surfaces of state highways in Arizona’s high country. While ADOT works to minimize delays for those traveling to and from northern Arizona, including not scheduling work over weekends and holidays, highways at higher elevations can only be paved during warmer months. Drivers heading north this summer should prepare by checking the Arizona Traveler Information site az511.gov, calling 511 and following ADOT’s Twitter account (@ArizonaDOT) to get the latest information on highway restrictions. “Summer is the best time to do work on northern Arizona highways…

The Kingman Fire Department is seeking individual or corporate donations, in order to restore Kingman’s first ever fire apparatus, known as the “FROG.” Initial restoration estimates to get the “FROG” running again, are upwards of $25,000, so the department is looking for the community’s help to keep this important piece of history alive. Talks continue regarding Palo Christi renovation bond

Member Bruce Ricca is a strong advocate and member Jenny Shumway remains critically focused, but the Kingman Unified School District board made no formal commitment Tuesday to pursuit of a multi-million dollar bond issue to fund a building refurbishment initiative at the Palo Christi campus downtown. Finance Director Ahron Sherman told board members that a political consultant made almost 12,000 phone calls in late April to gain completion of 400 telephone surveys attempting to measure public sentiment of the contemplation. He said a thorough assessment of the survey results reveals voter approval of a bond issue is a possibility. “I…

On May 7, a City of Kingman firefighter had fire uniforms stolen from his personal vehicle. Lashway gets 50-plus years for dealing drugs

A longtime addict will spend five decades in the Arizona Department of Corrections for dealing drugs in Lake Havasu City. Andrea Lashway, 43, was given a 51.5-year prison term by Judge Billy Sipe during a May 9 sentencing hearing at the Mohave County Courthouse in Kingman. Lashway skipped out in the middle of her trial in May, 2016 during which the jury convicted her of five sales of dangerous drug counts, three dangerous drug possession charges and a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
