Travel centers proposed on I-40 near Kingman

Necessary zoning changes are pending for a company planning to develop three travel center and truck stop projects along Interstate 40 outside Kingman. Mohave County Supervisors will take up the requests from Petroleum Wholesale, L.P., of The Woodlands, Texas during their board meeting next Monday. The county planning and zoning commission is recommending approval after considering the requests during its May 22 meeting. Two of the projects are proposed 20 miles east of Kingman at Blake Ranch Road, both north and south of Interstate 40. Nordyke arrested for alleged sex offense

The Mohave County Sheriff’s office reports the arrest of a Williams resident for sex offenses committed 15 years ago in Kingman. Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Thomas Wayne Nordyke, 69, was arrested Tuesday night and booked into the Coconino County jail in Flagstaff. Mortensen said the Mohave County investigation began on April 12 following contact with a detective in the Coconino County Sheriff’s office. “During the course of their investigation on an unrelated case, it was revealed that an alleged sex offense had occurred in Mohave County in 2004 involving Nordyke and a female victim,” Mortensen said. “The offense was alleged…

Voters to decide if mayoral term should be changed

Kingman voters may get the opportunity to decide whether the city mayor should serve for four years rather than two.  Kingman council members currently serve four-year terms while the mayor only serves two years. City Clerk Sydney Muhle recently told council members that the community may enjoy enhanced political stability and continuity with a four-year term format. She said more candidates might run for mayor if they can lock up a four-year term rather than having to expend the money and energy to run every two years.
