Aquino gets two years for delivering drugs to inmates

A former detention officer who delivered drugs and tobacco to her boyfriend and another inmate at the Mohave County jail was given a two year prison term on June 14. Judge Billy Sipe rejected Ashley Aquino’s request to be placed on probation. The former Bullhead City resident now living with her mother in California said she was 12 weeks pregnant and that she was hoping to put her criminal behavior in the past to focus on her job as a machinist and her future as a mother. “I’m remorseful for what I did and I’m learning from my mistake,” Aquino…

No charges in boating accident

The Mohave County Attorney’s office is declining to file charges in a multiple fatality boating crash on the Colorado River last Labor Day weekend. Four California residents were killed when two boats were involved in a head-on collision just after 8:00 p.m. on September 1 on a stretch of the river between Pirates Cove and the Topock Marina, north of Lake Havasu. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said 12 people were rescued after all 16 occupants of both vessels were tossed into the water at the point of impact. Dry conditions trigger fire restrictions on BLM managed lands in Western Arizona

Beginning June 20, fire restrictions will be implemented on Bureau of Land Management lands within the Colorado River District. The district’s 5.4 million acres of public lands in western Arizona extend from southern Mohave County, along the Colorado River, through La Paz and Yuma Counties and include the management of a small strip of land in southeastern California.
